The birthday dinner is both an ephemeral and highly curated event.

With so much to eat in Dallas and every meal counting, the birthday restaurant matters tenfold- not just for you but for your treasured guests. This spot is heavily sought after, over-researched, and perhaps never truly perfected.
Below are some of my top picks for your next birthday celebration, including places where I’ve hosted my own birthday dinners and those of my friends. The common thread? Good energy. You can celebrate anywhere, but the best spot is one where the whole restaurant feels like they’re having a great time, too.

Las Palmas – 2708 Routh St
For those who love Dallas and its Texan charm, Las Palmas is a quintessential spot to start your birthday celebration. It’s also my go-to recommendation for locals entertaining out-of-town visitors, thanks to its unique character, strong drinks, and prime Uptown location.
I’ve hosted my birthday dinner here two years in a row: the key is to book the wine room (by email only). It seats 10 around a large round table, requires no minimum spend, and gives you privacy while letting you soak in the lively energy of this Tex-Mex hotspot. Whatever you do, just make sure your large party doesn’t get stuck in upstairs Las Palmas purgatory- the vibe up there is completely disconnected from the main dining room.

Uchiba – 2817 Maple Ave Floor 2
For a small gathering or a larger group, Uchiba is ideal. It’s elevated enough to feel special but casual enough to kick off a fun night. Sushi is always a strong start before drinks, and Uchiba leans more into the cocktail lounge vibe than its downstairs counterpart, Uchi. Located near the Harwood District, you’ll have easy access to some of my favorite pubs, bars, and clubs to keep the party going. I’ve celebrated my birthday here recently- and a friend’s birthday even more recently. Nothing beats strong cocktails, top-tier sushi, and the energy of a packed cocktail bar.

Clifton Club – 3333 N Fitzhugh Ave
A lesser-known gem, Clifton Club is a cocktail lounge on the edge of Uptown with a surprisingly solid dinner menu to complement its drinks. It’s one of the smaller spots on my list, but as always, the vibes are top-tier. Groups are everywhere, and the back alcove- with 4-5 cocktail tables- creates a perfect “accidental” private space for your celebration. If a formal sit-down dinner feels too structured, this is a great option for drinks and bites with friends.

Bar Colette – 3699 McKinney Ave #306
If you’re starting your birthday with just cocktails, Bar Colette is the move. You won’t find more meticulously crafted drinks in Dallas than those by Bar Director Ruben Rolon, and the atmosphere feels like a complete escape from the city, perfect for a birthday kickoff.
This spot is also a dream for sushi lovers, since their carefully curated small-bites menu from Michelin-starred Christophe De Lellis was recently swapped for a catered selection from their next-door sister sushi concept, Namo. While I haven’t personally tried the new menu, the Cohanim brothers run a tight ship on food and beverage, so I have no doubt the drinks alone are worth the visit.

Bellini’s – 921 N Riverfront Blvd #300
I can’t stop talking about Bellini’s- it’s a Design District hidden gem that somehow remains under the radar. The ambiance is insane—a carefully curated maximalist Italian dream.
Since it’s lesser known, it’s much easier to book a large party (I’ve booked up to 30 on a Friday night) without sacrificing the celebratory feel. The food is affordable and solid, and you’re in a prime spot to hit nearby Design District clubs after dinner. This place is special, and your birthday will feel like it, too.
Consider this your guide for your next birthday—or for that of your uninformed friends. As if we needed another excuse to go out to dinner.
